As part of the great lecture series, peter dodson of the school of veterinary medicine and the school of arts and sciences delivers a talk about catastrophes in earth's history and how they paved the way for new opportunities for life. As part of penn museum’s year long online series, great lectures: great monuments, the association for public art’s executive director & chief curator, penny balkin bach, was invited as the concluding speaker on the topic of monuments, preceded by university of pennsylvania faculty, special guest hosts, and other colleagues. Tsing's lecture, which was co sponsored by penn's department of anthropology and envirolab, focused on "concrete" as a keyword, exploring its use as a medium and in social context. it took place at the penn museum on sept. 18 and drew around 100 attendees.
