Yep, every so often i will encounter a vertibird stolen by the gunners. usually the first clue is when they start shooting at me. at first i thought, why the hell is my companion shooting at a bos vertibird; they are not hostile to me! gunner vertibirds can most often be encountered just outside of quincy (at least in my experience). During the railroad questline, the railroad easily steal a brotherhood vertibird; they aren't exactly well defended while on the ground; presumably the hubris of the brotherhood to think that nothing in the commonwealth posed a threat to them. the railroad pilot was able to fly it from reading pre war helicopter manuals. Went on my merry way to let them duke it out with whatever it was. no less than 30 seconds later the vertibird was attacking me call me crazy but i think in extreme cases the bos pilot can be killed and the vertibird hijacked don't know for sure, but the gunner pilot wasn't named "gunner pilot" iirc, he was named same as the one in op's video.

I approached a landed vertibird, thinking there were some bos troops investigating something. as i got closer, it turned out that the pilot and a couple of npcs on the ground were gunners. this is the second time in a playthough that i have run into this .the first time, the vertibird was in the air, and a gunner was piloting it. both times, i launched missiles until the vertibirds blew up. I look over at the landed vertibird and see a gunner in the drivers seat and another gunner beside him, taking off. unfortunately, vertibirds are not exactly all that sturdy, health wise. it had already taken a beating while the bos were circling and landing, so it was at 1 4 health or so. well, a super mutant launched a rocket at it, and kaboom!.
