Omc King Cobra Drive Offshoreonly The cobra is comparable to an alpha ( dog clutch in lower) the king cobra is comparable to a bravo( cone clutch in upper) .they did have a 460 ford coupled to a cobra that they called the king cobra( they used the v8 outboard lower gearcase as i recall) right before the cone clutch king cobra came out( much like the 1st 454 magnum w. No need to replace the whole transom assembly. then you just need and alpha drive. food for thought. general q & a omc cobra outdrive vs king cobra outdrive i have an 1988 19' invader boat with a v8 motor in it. the out drive is an omc cobra outdriv le but the gears are all stripped out. I found them all in the seattle tacoma craigslist over several months time! right after i got the 454 bravo iii combo, i found a 2004 (i think) 496 bravo iii with only about 80hrs on it for an asking price of $8000 or 8500. . i suspect they would have taken maybe $7000 7500 but i had already gotten the 454. Jun 18, 2011. #2. re: bravo 3 vs. duoprop showdown. at the risk of contributing to a 'chevy ford dodge' debate, i loved the sx series duoprop on my '99 chris*craft. shifted smooth as silk, quiet, simple design, reputation for being extremely robust. downside is that replacement props are very expensive.
